Need a little motivation or challenge to pick up the camera?

The Monthly Photography Challenge is designed to get you out with your camera. Some months the challenges will be simple and easy. In other months you’ll be asked to dig deeper and spend some time thinking about your photography, the hows and whys of it.

Every month should be fun. I’m all about making sure you’re having fun with your photography. If it’s not fun we don’t feel like participating so we don’t. Then we’re sad because we’re not creating photos. No one likes a sad photographer.

Is This for Me?

YES! This is for anyone who likes to take photos. Whatever you use to create images, you’re here to learn and grow in your photography. I do not care what camera you use—got that?

Benefits of a Monthly Challenge

There are many benefits to taking part in a monthly photography challenge (or any photography challenge). Here are a few:

  • Improve your skills: A photography challenge pushes you to experiment with new techniques, explore different subjects, and see the world in a new way. It helps you hone your technical abilities and develop your creative vision.
  • Break out of your comfort zone: Challenges can nudge you to try things you wouldn’t normally attempt. This can lead to surprising discoveries and help you identify new areas of interest in photography.
  • Boost your creativity: With a specific theme or prompt, you’ll need to think outside the box and come up with unique ways to capture your subject. This is a great way to spark your creativity and develop a stronger artistic voice.
  • Develop your observation skills: Actively searching for subjects that fit the challenge theme will make you more observant of your surroundings. You’ll start to see potential photographs everywhere you go if you’re not already.
  • Stay motivated: A challenge provides a clear goal and a sense of purpose for your photography. This can help you stay motivated and keep practicing, especially if you tend to get discouraged easily.
  • Get feedback and connect with others: Our online community is a place where you can share your work and get feedback from me and others. This can be a valuable source of encouragement and learning.

How it Works

  • As a subscriber, you’ll receive an email on the 1st of every month.
  • The email will contain some inspirational (hopefully) images, a bit about what I’m working on AND the Monthly Challenge.
  • You get out and create images for the challenge.
  • Share the images in the Facebook group if you decide to join.
  • Share the images directly with me via email or DM if you’d rather do that.
  • There is no time limit on these challenges. Do them at your leisure. No pressure.

These challenges are here for you when you need a boost in your creativity or a reason to pick up the camera. There is no requirement to do them and submit images every month. That’s up to you if you want to share.
