Random finds in my photos

I couldn’t let August go by without participating in the wildflowers challenge. While I’m not a big flower photographer, they are there, beautiful and sometimes end up in my viewfinder.
My camera has been fairly dormant this year, so I decided to rely on my good old Google Photos to find some wildflower images. It’s an easy way to find images for challenges some months.

This is from a local forest preserve from September 2018. I purposefully photographed this for a photography mentorship program I was in. The lessons that week were all about color.
I loved that the crabtree is a bit lost in the field of yellow.

On one of my ‘need to get out of the house’ days in April of 2021. I went to a local arboretum and wandered around for a few hours. For this photo, I had my 100–400mm lens set at 400 mm, put the camera on the ground and hoped for the best.
I have an older camera, so no articulating screen. When I put the camera on the ground, I’m shooting blind. Yes, I could put myself on the ground, but it isn’t a pretty sight when I try to get up off the ground. So, I put my camera down and trust my creative soul.

Chicory from along a trail near the river. I’ve always thought these flowers were so pretty. This one is from July 2011.

An outing up to the Horicon Marsh in Wisconsin in September 2017. It’s a beautiful place and I should go back. It’s the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States and is a National Wildlife Refuge. Most people have heard of Horicon Marsh because of the diversity of birds that pass through here during migrations.

A little tiny flower from a moss-covered rock. I love finding these little gems. This one is from April 2018, and I think it was from the arboretum.

One of my favorite times to head down to one of my favorite spots along the Fox River is when the trilliums are blooming. They are such an interesting flower. We have white and maroon in the area. An outing in April 2023.

In May of 2012, I was out with a group in Lincoln Park, down near Lake Michigan. With the dark, moody sky, the yellow popped.

September 2018, in my backyard. Sometimes the light shows you the way.

This is an old one, and I went to try to find the year and couldn’t find the image again. I was out with a photography friend of mine along the river, a few towns upstream from where I usually go.
As I went through my Google Photos, I found more wildflowers, so hopefully, I’ll get another story put together to share a few more wildflowers this month.
P.S. One of my favorite Tom Petty songs
